Scott Crichton 2012 bio

Scott Crichton is serving his 22nd year as judge with the First Judicial District Court.  Having served on both the civil and criminal divisions, Judge Crichton has presided over hundreds of jury trials and well over a thousand hearings and bench trials.  Committee memberships and positions are as follows:

 

  • President of the Louisiana District Judges Association   

  • Advisory Committee to the Supreme Court on Judicial Canons 

  • Louisiana Supreme Court Committee on Judicial Ethics 

  • Louisiana Judicial College Board of Governors  

  • Court Rules Committee (Rules for Louisiana District Courts and Juvenile Courts, appendices and Numbering Systems for Louisiana Family and Domestic Relations Procedures) 

  • Criminal Best Practices Committee  

  • Chairman of the CLE Committee of the Shreveport Bar Association 

  • Previously a member of the Continuing Legal Education and the Diversity committees of the Louisiana State Bar Association  

  • Certified by the National Judicial College in program design 

  • Graduate (2011) inaugural class of the Louisiana Judicial Leadership Institute   

  • Vestry of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Shreveport 

  • Creator of a PowerPoint teen consequences program, “Don’t Let This Be You”, created 6 years ago and since presented to more than 20,000 teenagers/parents at various Shreveport high schools, churches and community groups 

  • Creator of PowerPoint program, “Sexting, Texting and Beyond”, for teenagers, parents and teachers on electronic laws and related misbehavior 

  • Creator of “No More Strikes”, for inmates in DOC Reentry Program 

  • Presented over 100 CLE programs to various legal groups 

  • Former adjunct instructor of Business Law at LSU-Shreveport   

 

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976 from Louisiana State University and Juris Doctor degree in 1980 from Paul M. Hebert LSU Law Center.  Prior to his election to the bench in 1990, he served as an assistant district attorney for Caddo Parish for a decade and maintained a civil practice.    

 

Scott and his wife, Susie, have two sons, both of whom are in law school.
