Committees, Activitites and Volunteer


I am involved off the bench in a number of community activities and boards:

  1. Shreveport Bar Association - Chairman of the Continuing Legal Education(CLE). In 2008 President Zelda Tucker appointed me to chair the CLE Committee, the primary purpose is to design and coordinate the academic programs for the October recent developments and December CLE By the Hour Seminars.
  2. Louisiana District Judges Association -Executive Council, Chairman of Education Committee. For the 2008-09 year, John Conery, President of the Louisiana District Judges Association appointed me to serve on the Judicial Education Committee. My role, as I understand it, is to work with the Louisiana Judicial College in connection with its five seminars throughout the year.
  3. Advisory Committee to the Supreme Court for the Revision of the Code of Judicial Conduct - In 2003, the Supreme Court appointed me to the Advisory Committee regarding revision of the Code of Judicial Conduct. Therefore for the past 5 years I have served on this 15 member committee chaired by retired Justice Harry Lemmon. I have served as chairman of one of three subcommittees.
  4. Louisiana Judicial Mentoring Committee – Scott was one of the founding members of the Louisiana Judicial Mentoring Committee, authorized and encouraged by the Supreme Court of Louisiana to provide a judicial mentoring system in which older and more seasoned judges serve as a mentor for young new judges. I have served as a mentor for 5 judges over a period of 7 years.
  5. Capital Bench Book Committee – I have served on this committee for the past 9 years. This committee has published a Louisiana Judge Capital Bench Book and I authored the voir dire section.
  6. YMCA of Northwest Louisiana (formerly YMCA of Shreveport-Bossier) February 2006 – present - This board is comprised of about 20 members and oversees operations and sets policy for the three YMCA branches in Shreveport – downtown, Broadmoor and Carver. The Y is a non-profit corporation and its mission statement is “to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all”. Therefore, the YMCA is interested in helping all people to become involved citizens in developing strong kids, strong families and strong communities. Before I was appointed to the Board, I served on the Downtown Management Committee, one year of which I served as president.
  7. Volunteers For Youth Justice –I previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of Volunteers For Youth Justice, a non- profit corporation which serves as an advocate for children who have been abused, neglected or are showing signs of delinquent behavior. The mission is to serve at risk children by the Volunteers For Youth Justice team of staff and community volunteers who give countless hours of service to positively affect and change lives.
  8. Member, St. Marks’ Episcopal Church – My wife, Susie, and I have been members of St. Mark’s since 1985. Susie is on the vestry committee and is involved in numerous community outreach efforts including the food kitchen which serves food to economically challenged citizens in our community.
  9. Harry V. Booth and Judge Henry A. Politz American Inn of Court. I am somewhat of a newcomer to this prestigious group of lawyers. We meet once per month during the lunch hour to discuss legal topics with the objective of enhancing the legal profession in our community.

  11. Louisiana State Bar Association Diversity Committee 2010 - On March 11, 2010 I was appointed to the LSBA Diversity Committee.  As one who has been especially interested in diversity issues, I deem this to be quite an honor and I look forward to service!
  12. Pro Se Litigation Task Force – I was appointed by Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Kitty Kimball in 2009 to serve on this 15 member committee.  The purpose of this committee is to make recommendations to the Court on ways to improve access to the courts for pro se litigants and to provide for uniform procedures pertaining to pro se litigation.
