Louisiana District Court Rules and Motion Practice Update

Louisiana District Court Rules and Motion Practice Update
The Louisiana District Court Rules (cited as La. Dist. Ct. R. ___) were adopted by the Supreme Court of Louisiana April 2002.  These uniform rules, as they are commonly referenced, include 5 sections as follows:

    TITLE I
    General Rules – District Courts
(Civil, Criminal, Juvenile, Family and Domestic)

    TITLE II
    Civil Proceedings
(Except for Family, Juvenile and Domestic)

TITLE III
Criminal Proceedings

TITLE IV
Numbering System for Family and Domestic Proceedings

TITLE V
Juvenile Proceedings

On October 9, 2009, I served on a panel with Susie Morgan, Suzie Stinson and Jerry Edwards in connection with a program titled State Uniform Rules and Motion Practice Update.  This was one of thirteen hours of continuing legal education offered at the annual Recent Developments By The Judiciary, hosted by the Shreveport Bar Association.

Our panel primarily focused on Title II Civil Proceedings and addressed the most important rules as they apply to civil motion practice and we addressed the proposed amendments to be considered by the Supreme Court of Louisiana later this year or early 2010.  Click below to watch the panel discussion on Title II of the Louisiana District Court Rules.
